Maria Garriott and her husband Craig moved into a low-income urban Baltimore neighborhood in 1981 to plant Faith Christian Fellowship (PCA), a multi-ethnic church committed to ministry in Word and deed. The church operates a tutoring program, sports leagues, and other ministries. Maria’s poetry, essays, and nonfiction articles have appeared in The Baltimore Sun, The Christian Century, Urban Mission Journal, Breakpoint, and the other periodicals. According to Lynne Hybels, Maria’s memoir A Thousand Resurrections “capture(s) the brokenness and healing, the grief and joy that lie at the heart of every true story of personal or community transformation.” Maria is a curriculum writer at a program for at-risk schools at Johns Hopkins University. She also works for Parakaleo, a ministry that provides coaching, caring, and connecting for church planting couples, and leads a virtual network of urban church planting spouses, the Urbanistas.
